This is a discussion for ways we can save money individually and collectively by purchasing things together in bulk for ex. buying an organic grass-fed cow and diving up all the meat between who ever is interested can get your costs down from $12/lb to $5. And it keeps the money in the Comox Valley, and reduces environmental impact by eliminating the need for it to be transported.
Other ideas:
-making kombucha, beer, wine, cider together
-Sunday Sourdough bake night
-Weekly/Monthly potlucks
-meal sharing/ prepping between households
-rideshare/ vehicle sharing
-Sharing childcare/ taking turns baby sitting each others children
-homeschooling together
-Making Soap and candles together
-Making tie dye t-shirts together
-Canning, persevering
Individually these things don't add up to much on their own, or perhaps that is what you tell yourself but just making your own Kombucha or Beer can save you a $6000+/year add that to the $2000 you saved from getting your beef from your local farmer in bulk with your friends and you've just saved $8000.. individually. Lets times that by 20 households doing that together, now we have saved $160 000 as a collective. That is just from making 2 changes in our lifestyle: where we get our beef from, and making our own beverages.
Think about how much extra money aka time we could have if we applied that method to the majority of our expenses?
Maybe you are already doing lots of these things by yourself in your home. Think about how much more enjoyable and effortless it would be to do them in large scale together as a group.
There are many forms this can take and we don't need to live together in an intentional community in order to create more intentional in our already existing community.
If a community garden isn't possible or feasible, think about other ways you can team up with your neighbours, help each other with their gardens, harvest and preserving. Share the abundance/ trade/ gift. Delegate different households for different crops and share amongst each other.
Many of these products could be sold on the Trading Post store as well so this isn't just a money saving idea but also a money making idea!
